Should I ignore you?

I was just having a conversation with my younger brother because neither
of us were really in the mood to do our homework and we kind of
got carried away

he asked me:

" If I must be aware of my surroundings and contemplate
different perspectives and at the same time I should
surround myself with higher intellectuals, how
do I deal with the majority I cross paths with?"

I didn't know how to reply,

should we ignore the people who we believe to be
of no help to the evolving of our ideas?

or must we always be open to anyone's views?

But by anyone I mean that girl in your class you
know only watches Paris Hilton series on MTV and
describes everything as "cool"

I mean, should these kind of people deserve a minute
of our attention?

The unfortunate presence of the type of people you're describing is much too prominent to just ignore. However, there are times when I find myself tuning out and dreaming of a place where reality television and leather flats aren't "necesseties." So when I'm forced to converse with the types of people who are stuck behind the shadow of their iPhone, not only do I feel upset that this is the norm, but I learn more and more about what I shouldn't become.

So I don't think that these people should be ignored, on the contrary, I think that we should embrace interaction with these people. Because not only are we learning about ourselves, we're learning about who surrounds us. I think you should tell your brother (who is awesome by the way) that it's very crucial to interact with all of those who cross your path, because if you don't then you're only cutting yourself off from a huge portion of the world and thus suffocating your growth.
